Species Account:

This attractive chromodorid, Chromodoris rufomaculata, is considered to be uncommon on Okinawa as I have seen and collected ten individuals between the years 1987 and 1992; I have seen no others since the last one was collected on 14 February, 1992. The above featured animal was found crawling on the surface of mixed silty-sand and strewn oyster shell rubble beneath the concrete pier pilings (dense colonies of bryozoans, cnidarians, poriferans, and others, were growing on the pilings).
