Species Account:

As of the current date I've not personally seen specimens of the above attractive little aeolid here in the waters of Okinawa's main island. Cuthona sp. 1 is considered by Atsushi Ono to be rare in waters of the Keramas* and he reports (pers. comm.) seeing three individuals in the Keramas. Atsushi goes on to say that the above animal was found on dead coral. The above image was taken by Atsushi and is used here with his kind permission. I've added an additional image of Cuthona sp. 1, also furnished by Atsushi.

This same animal is found in Atsushi's most recent book (Ono, 2004, No. 586, p. 281).

In addition to the above featured animal, I've previously featured on these pages the following species of Cuthona:

  • C. acinosa
  • C. diversicolor
  • C. ornata
  • C. pupillae
  • C. purpureoanulata
  • C. sibogae
  • C. yamasui
  • C. sp. 2
  • C. sp. 3
  • C. sp. 4
