Opisthobranch of the Week Data
Taxonomy:
I've not found Doto sp. 10 in the waters of Okinawa's main island as of the current date. However, Atsushi Ono considers Doto sp. 10 to be common in the waters of the Keramas* and reports seeing in excess of twenty individuals. The above featured animal was found by Atsushi in twenty-two meters of water on the hydroid as seen in the above image. Atsushi has two images of this species featured in his recent book (Ono, 2004, pp. 224 & 226). The image of the above featured animal is used here with Atsushi's kind permission.
As of the current date there in no similar animal appearing in Bill Rudman's Sea Slug Forum, however, Cobb & Willan (2006, p. 252) have an animal from the coast of southern Queensland which is very similar to that of Atsushi Ono's; the Cobb & Willan animal is seen on the hydroid Macrorhynchia philippina.
In addition to Doto sp. 10, I've collected at least seven unknown Doto species from the waters of Okinawa's main island and I've featured a series of described and unknown Doto species previously on these pages. These Doto species are profiled on the following links:
Doto cf. racemosa Doto pita Doto sp. 1 Doto sp. 2 Doto sp. 3 Doto sp. 4 Doto sp. 5 Doto sp. 6 Doto sp. 7 Doto sp. 8 Doto sp. 9 Doto sp. 10 The above featured animal Doto sp. 11
