Species Account:

This small attractive little gastropterid, Gastropteron was photographed and collected from a sandy-bottomed environment from Aka Island within the Kerama Islands Group, which are located 30 ~ 40 kilometers west of the Okinawa capitol, Naha. This featured animal was photographed and collected by Atsushi Ono during August of 2010 in seven meters of water. Atsushi's photograph is used here with his kind permission. It should be noted that Atsushi considers the species to be relatively common in the Kerama Islands ... he has seen over thirty specimens (pers. comm.). Atsushi has an additional photo of this animal in his 2004 publication (p. 32, as Gastropteron sp. 3).

Previously on these pages another unknown species of Gastropteron was featured, Gastropteron sp. 1. In addition, I've added a second image of the above animal, also furnished by Atsushi.
