Species Account:

Phestilla lugubris is considered to be very rare on Okinawa as I have seen and collected only a single individual over a period of more than twenty years of diving here. This solitary specimen was found sitting on a clutch of ova, on the undersurface of a slab of coral rubble in an area of mixed silty-sand and coral rubble.
